PENRITE VINTAGE OILS
Veteran Pre 1920
For Veteran (1885 - 1904), Edwardian Vehicles (1905 - 1919), Motorcycles, Stationary & Agricultural Engines.
Heritage oils are available in two different viscosities.
Since standards were not available in those days, we have named them LTM (Light to Medium) and MTH (Medium to Heavy).

LTM
A light to medium viscosity engine oil designed to meet the requirements
of small engined Veteran and Edwardian cars of 1, 2 and 4 cylinders and
motorcycles of up to 500cc.
These vehicles fitted with rather primitive oiling systems such as drip fed lubricator systems, wick feed, and hand operated pumps require an engine oil that will readily flow when cold yet provide the necessary protection when hot.
Heritage LTM is also recommended for early forms of stationary engines and other early agricultural equipment fueled by either petrol, kerosene (paraffin) or diesel. Typical oil change periods are yearly or every 500 miles (800kms) whichever comes first.
Please Note: other variables such as engine design features or condition could have an effect as to which oil will give optimum performance. If in doubt please contact Penrite.
General Characteristics of this range are:
Tenacity (clinging ability)
Corrosion protection (protects against corrosion when vehicle is
not in use)
Water resistance (results of primitive water pump design leaking
water into sumps)
Heritage LTM has been blended solely for the purpose of meeting the
requirements of the above type vehicles.
Available in 1 & 5 Litre

MTH
A medium to heavy viscosity engine oil designed to meet the requirements of medium to large Veteran and Edwardian cars of 4, 6 and 8 cylinders and motorcycles of 500cc capacity and over.
It was often the case that the more expensive the vehicle, the better the lubrication system.
For these larger vehicles many fitted with splash, trough or early forms of pressure fed systems, a heavier grade engine oil such as Heritage MTH is required.
Heritage MTH can also be used in large type stationary engines of 6 H.P and larger which may be subjected to constant un-loaded running or where a thinner grade oil would not provide the necessary protection at high ambient temperatures.
May also be used in other forms of early agricultural equipment fueled by either petrol, kerosene (paraffin) or diesel.
This feature particularly applies to open cranked stationary engines where
engine vibration can cause water spillage from above mounted hoppers onto
working parts.
Heritage MTH has been blended solely for the purpose of meeting the
requirements of the above type vehicles.
Vintage 1920 - 1950
The right Penrite engine oil for vintage cars and pre and post war vehicles
up to 1950 come from the Shelsley Range. Ambient operating temperature and
SAE rating are the primary considerations.

For use in temperatures between 0°C (32°F) & 20°C (68°F)
Shelsley Light
Recommended for use in ambient temperatures above a minimum of 5°C (40°F)
where old style 20W/50, 20W or SAE 30 oils were originally or subsequently
recommended.
Engine oils covering this period rarely incorporated any of the modern additive technology available today, and problems of sludge build up, bearing corrosion and piston ring sticking were common place.
This oil contains low levels of dispersant/detergent additives maintaining engine internal cleanliness and offer excellent protection against corrosion and wear.
Typical oil change periods are yearly or every 1000 miles (1600kms) whichever comes first.
Please Note: other variables such as engine design features or condition could have an effect as to which oil will give optimum performance. If in doubt please contact Penrite.
General Characteristics of this range are:
Good low temperature flowability- 'warm up' is reduced.
Lower rate of viscosity loss with increasing oil temperature
Better oil pressure, oil consumption and overall protection.
storage protection characteristics of the oils have been substantially
boosted to compensate for the periods of non-use often found in hobby-type
vehicles.

For use in temperatures between 21°C (70°F) & 30°C (86°F)
Shelsley Medium
Recommended for use in warmer climates than Shelsey Light where a minimum
of 10°C (50°F) will be experienced and where old style SAE 40 oils
were originally recommended.

For use in temperatures above 31°C (88°F)
Shelsley Heavy
Recommended for use in high ambient temperatures above 30°C (85°F),
or where old style SAE 50 oils were used. Ideal in the larger capacity engines
of veteran and vintage cars and also those fitted with sleeve valve engines.

Classic 1950 - 1970
The right Penrite engine oil for classic cars up to 1970 comes from the
Classic Range.

Suitable where old style 20w/50, 20w or SAE 30 oils were originally used.
Classic Light
Used in vehicles operating in ambient temperatures above a minimum of 5oC
(40oF) or subsequently where old style 20w/50, 20w or SAE 30 oils were originally
or subsequently recommended. Also suitable as an engine/transmission oil
in BMC mini.
The oil contains optimum quantities of modern additive systems to suit vehicles of this period.
Typical oil change periods are yearly or every 3,000 miles (5000kms) whichever comes first.
Please Note: other variables such as engine design features or condition could have an effect as to which oil will give optimum performance. If in doubt please contact Penrite.
General Characteristics of this range are:
Contains optimum quantities of modern additive systems to suit vehicles
of this period and provide unequaled protection against rust or corrosion
after fluid in engines which spent its majority of time not in use.
Dispersant/detergent additives maintain engine internal cleanliness
along with anti-wear additives designed to protect camshafts.
Additive exceed quality levels originally called for by manufacturers
of vehicles when new.

Classic Medium
Suitable in warmer climates where old style SAE 40 oils were originally
used.
Recommended for use in warmer climates where a minimum of 10oC (50oF) will
be experienced. Also recommended where old style SAE 40 oils were originally
