Preventing swirl marks is one of the biggest challenges in caring for today’s delicate clear coat finishes.

Grit Guard® helps prevent swirl marks inflicted during the wash process when small particles of dirt and debris are rubbed across the surface of the paint.

Simply place the Grit Guard into the bottom of the wash bucket. Each time you dunk your wash mitt or sponge into the bucket to get more suds, rub it against the Grit Guard.

The unique grid pattern helps remove the dirt and grit while the baffles on the bottom act to calm the water to prevent particles from being re-circulated in the wash solution.

The next best thing to washing your car with suds and water

Most parts of Australia have been affected by a prolonged and severe drought and the long-range weather forecasters predict more of the same. As a result, it is almost certain that water restrictions are here to stay and we all need to do our bit to conserve our most valuable resource.
Meguiar's has been making "waterless" solutions for maintaining the appearance of cars for years. Traditionally, enthusiasts have been using our "spray detailers" to keep their vehicles pristine in between regular washes, but now we have a system that dramatically reduces the need to wash your car the traditional way.
No doubt about it, the best way to wash a truly dirty car is with suds and water. However, a lot of the time your vehicle isn't excessively dirty and the Meguiar's Waterless system is a fast, non-scratch alternative that's perfect for the job.

The Meguiar's Waterless System consists of three essential products:

1. Meguiar's Waterless Body Duster

Meguiar's Waterless Body Duster has super soft cotton strands impregnated with special paraffin oil to safely lift off and trap dust and loose dirt particles quickly and easily, without leaving residue.

Meguiar's Body Duster can even be used on its own if dust is your only problem.

2. Meguiar's Waterless Spray Detailer

Meguiar's Waterless Spray Detailer has a unique blend of high lubricity polymers that gently removes dirt, grime and fresh surface contaminations while enhancing gloss and protection.

It's safe and effective on all interior surfaces, including glass and wheels, and is available in 473mL and 2 litre sizes.

3. Meguiar's Waterless Microfibre Towels

Meguiar's Waterless Microfibre Towels are extra large and have a plush, deep pile to safely wipe-off and trap dirt and fresh contaminants without scratching.

Plus, the ultra premium grade of mircofibreis super absorbent to leave a totally smear-free, hight gloss finish

It's as easy as 1-2-3...

Step 1. Pre-clean with Body Duster
Just as you would pre-rinse if you were using suds and water to minimise the possibility of scratching, gently wipe over the bodywork with our Body Duster to remove dust, loose dirt and contaminants.

Step 2. Wet with Spray Detailer
Just as you would splash on the suds if you were using a sponge or washmitt, apply Spray Detailer with an even mist to one section at a time and allow a few seconds to penetrate.

Step 3. Cleanse & Dry with Microfibre Towels
Just as you would rinse clean and chamois dry if you were washing the traditional way, use a Microfibre Towel to wipe off dirt and fresh contaminants.

Then buff dry to a brilliant shine with a second Microfibre Towel.

TIPS

When your car is really dirty...

Remember, the dirtier the car, the greater the potential for scratching your valuable paintwork with dirt lodged in the towels used to wipe the paint surface, so don’t take short cuts. Apply Spray Detailer liberally have additional clean towels on hand.

There will be times when your vehicle is just too dirty to clean using a waterless process without the risk of scratching the paintwork. This is particularly the case when your car has been exposed to substantial bird droppings, heavy tree sapor an off-road excursion. And while there are some waterless car wash products that promise stellar results no matter how dirty the vehicle, we recommend you treat such claims with a high degree of caution.

Keep it waxed...

Most people understand why it's important to polish/wax their car’s paintwork regularly. In addition to providing high gloss protection from the elements, Meguiar’s car waxes leave a tough, slick coating on your paint finish, which provides greater surface slip and helps prevent dirt, grime and contaminants from bonding to the finish. This allows easier, safer and more effective waterless car washing.

Product Options (not included in kit)

Just as you would expect from our car wash shampoos, Meguiar’s Waterless Spary Detailer is safe and efficient at cleaning all of your cars exterior surfaces such as paintwork, plastic trim, plastic lenses, vinyl, rubber, chrome, glass and wheels etc.

And as you would also expect if you were washing your car the conventional way, the glass and wheels need extra attention and/or alternative dedicated products to achieve superior results.

Glass Cleaning Tips

Clean glass after paintwork following the same routine. Or, for fast superior results use a Meguiar's Glass Cleaner like No Smear Glass Cleaner or NXT Generation Glass Cleaner and a Meguiar's Terry Towelling Cloth instead. Either way, be sure to turn to a fresh, dry section of cloth for the final wipe to ensure clean and clear results.

Wheel & Tyre Cleaning Tips

For regularly maintained wheels, apply Spray Detailer to one wheel and tyre at a timeand wipe clean using a Terry Towelling Cloth. Repeat if necessary, then clean, shine & protect tyres in one step with Meguiar's Hot Shine Tyre Foam.

For excessively dirty wheels, apply Meguiar's Non Acid Wheel Cleaner first (which can be used with or without water) and use a damp, open-weave disposable cloth to remove excess brake dust and grime. Follow with Spray Detailer and a Terry Towelling Cloth for the final clean and wipe.

Ways to wash your car using very little water

It's essential to protect and preserve the general condition of your car. So you shouldn't feel guilty about cleaning your car, just do it with minimal water wastage and be sure to comply with any water restrictions in your area. Here are some ways to wash your car using very little water.

Your car is under attack!

Damaging elements such as industrial fallout, harsh road grime, bird and insect droppings, tree sap and pollen, acid rain and brake dust etc continually attack you car’s paintwork, trim and wheels.

So regular washing, combined with periodic polishing and waxing, isn’t just for appearance sake – it’s essential to protect and preserve the general condition of your car.

Go slow on the H2O

These days, everyone recognises water is a valuable and scarce resource and the responsibility for conserving our water supplies rests with all of us.

“Residential water use” accounts for more than half of water consumption in urban areas. The easiest way to reduce consumption at home is to minimise water wastage and use more efficient appliances and equipment.

To put this in perspective, washing your car the right way, say once a week, accounts for a relatively small amount of water consumption compared to other activities around the home. For example, a family of four taking daily showers accounts for more than 4,000 litres a week, using the dishwasher and washing machine regularly consumes around 600 litres a week, and watering the garden during summer soaks up at least 1000 litres a week.

So you shouldn’t feel guilty about cleaning your car, just do it with minimal water wastage and be sure to comply with any water restrictions in you area.

So how do you wash your car using very little water?

1. Watering Can
It’s more time consuming and far less effective than using a hose with nozzle or a high pressure washer, but it’s the cheapest piece of equipment you’ll ever buy. It’s also far less wasteful than throwing a bucket of water over the car.

Average water consumption to clean a car: 50-60 litres.

2. High Pressure Cleaners

The greatest thing since sliced bread!

High pressure cleaners are by far the most water efficient devices available for washing your car.

They not only use at least 60% less water than a hose and nozzle, but the high pressure action pre-cleans and rinses far more effectively than mains pressure.

Reputable brands are now relatively affordable with basic models selling for around $100 or so. On average, you will only use about 30 litres of water to pre-clean and rinse your car.

Always do the actual washing using a wash mitt or sponge with a separate bucket of suds and water.

There are severe water restrictions in parts of Australia, particularly in Sydney and regional NSW, which prohibit connecting a high pressure cleaner directly to a mains tap and insist on using a bucket or watering can for washing your car. The good news is that it's cheap and easy to convert your bucket to feed water to a high pressure cleaner and therefore save water and comply with such water restrictions. Alternatively, we can supply you with a bucket already set up as below, to hook straight up to your high pressure cleaner. Click here to purchase.

1. Drill a 25mm diameter hole at the base of a large bucket - 15 Litre size is best. (Fig 1)

2. Fit garden hose fitting with shut-off valve - available from any good hardware supplier. (Fig 2)

3. Fill the bucket and place it in a position higher than the machine, so the water will gravity feed. Attach snap-on connector fittings to each end of a 1m length of garden hose, and connect one end to the bucket. For the Lavor EKO machine, we recommend a 3m length of garden hose. Open the shut-off valve and ensure there is water flow, then connect to the machine. (Fig 3)

4. Turn on the machine and wait for the high pressure water flow to the lance and you’re set to go. Take note to refill the bucket before the water level gets too low. (Fig 4)

The best washing procedure

Rinse car from top down to remove dust and loose dirt particles. Pour Meguiar’s car wash concentrate into a clean bucket and add water.
Apply wash solution using a clean Meguiar’s Wash Mitt or soft sponge, starting from the top surfaces and working you way down the sides.
Frequently run you fingers through wash mitt or squeeze sponge while submerged to release any dirt particles. Rinse off suds before wash solution starts to dry on surface.
Spray Meguiar’s Wheel Cleaner onto one wheel at a time. Agitate with a sponge or wheel brush if necessary then rinse thoroughly.
Wipe car dry with clean Meguiar’s Chamois. Wipe door jams & wheels dry with separate/old chamois.

Helpful Tips

Wash your car in the shade, especially during summer
Ensure paintwork and wheels are cool
Try to wash your car once a week
Dirt particles from the mitt/sponge sink to bottom of the bucket, so don’t use last one third of wash solution on your paintwork
