Evapo-Rust is a rust remover that is biodegradable, non-toxic, and safe on skin. It will remove rust but leave metal and plastic unharmed. As you can see from the photos below, this product is very effective in removing rust. If you can soak the rusted item, this method is the most efficient at removing all the rust, including the areas that would be hard to reach with abrasives.

How does Evapo-Rust Work?
Unlike some products that use acids to remove rust, Evapo-Rust uses a chemical process called chelation to selectively remove rust. Chelation is a process where a large synthetic molecule forms a bond with metals and holds them in a solution. The active ingredient in Evapo-Rust bonds to rust while leaving surrounding materials unharmed.


How To Use EVAPO-RUST
Step by Step Instructions

1. In a container, pour a sufficient amount of EVAPO-RUST™ to completely cover the rusted object.


2. Immerse the rusty object in the solution and leave it for 10 minutes for light rust or up to overnight for extremely heavy rust.

3.When finished, rinse item with water. If deep rust remains in pits, re-immerse item until all the rust is gone. Un-rusted metal will not be affected. NOTE: This stage is VERY important in getting the best results.

4.To prevent flash rusting, dip the item back into solution. Then allow item to air dry. This will prevent rust for up to two weeks.

Evapo-Rust™ is the only chemistry in the world employing selective chelation for rust removal. Evapo-Rust™ is sewerable in neat form and works at a pH ranging from 6 delivered to 7 as a spent solution. Evapo-Rust™ is a full replacement for acid and caustic rust removal applications, yet is non-hazardous, non-corrosive, non-flammable, and poses no environmental or health hazards. Evapo-Rust™ is a clear to yellow liquid best suited for dip tank applications. In its simplest application, a plastic pale will suffice as an impromptu dip tank application. Rust removal is accomplished with no operator input, once the piece is fully immersed. Most pieces/parts do not even need dismantling before soaking. Evapo-Rust™ does not harm aluminium, brass, copper, vinyl, plastic, wiring, rubber, chrome, or non-oxide paint. Light rust is removed in as little as 5 to 30 minutes. Medium rust up to 6 hours, and heavy rust takes up to 24 hours. The chemistry is corrosion inhibiting for up to 2 weeks or it can be rinsed off for immediate painting. Evapo-Rust™ has no transportation restrictions.

 

U.S. economic loss to corrosion costs $276 billion dollars annually, $20 billion in the Department of Defense alone. Figure 1 (right) shows the actual cost of corrosion, broken down by industry. Current methods of corrosion or rust removal include acids, caustics, converters, electrolysis, and mechanical. These methods subject personnel, equipment, and the environment to toxic and hazardous materials, emissions, conditions, and waste. How big is the scope? As an example, the steel pickling industry utilized an estimated 245 million gallons of Hydrochloric Acid alone in 1991 and emits approximately 8920 Mg/yr of HCI .


The solution works by removing iron (Fe II) from iron oxide and binding it in a ligand complex. (see illustration below). The selective-chelator is not strong enough to remove iron-to-iron bonds from un-corroded steel and does not harm the underlying metal. The chelator is too expensive to use large quantities in the finished product. An organic chemical that easily loses sulfur to form ferric sulfate was added to remove iron from the iron-chelator complex. This allows the chelator to remove more iron from iron oxide. The sulfur-bearing compound is much less expensive than the chelator and makes Evapo-Rust™ economical to use.Evapo-Rust™ has a chemical carrying capacity of 300grams of pure, dry rust per 5 litres.

 

The chemistry is endothermic so it requires some ambient heat to work. In temperatures below 5°C, the reaction is severely retarded. At 15-20°C it is pleasantly quick, and at 35-50° it is very active. Higher temperatures do not harm the liquid, but for worker safety,they are not necessary. Only water evaporates from the fluid, and can be replaced without loss of performance. It is recommended to use Evapo-Rust™ as a free liquid in a dip-tank application. After treatment, the part can be water rinsed for painting, plating, or other type of corrosion protective coating. If left un-rinsed, the fluid will dry on the treated surface to a hard, short-term corrosion resistant coating with no corrosion removal properties. As a dry film, it inhibits oxidation indoors for 10 to 14 days, depending on the humidity.

Observations show the ability of this chemistry to remove iron oxide without having any affect on plastic, acrylic and poly paint, rubber, butyl, tin, aluminium, copper, brass, and a host of other tested materials. The precise types of iron oxide and coatings affected are: Maghemite - ? Fe2O3, Magnetite - Fe3O4 , Wustite – FeO, Iron hydroxide - Fe(OH)2 , Iron trihydroxide (bernalite) – Fe(OH)3, Akageneite - ß FeOOH, Feroxyhite - d FeOOH, Lepidocrocite - ? FeOOH 11 and Parkerizing (both types: manganese & zinc). Hematite - a Fe2O3 and Goethite - a FeOOH are not affected by Evapo-Rust.

Cooling System Flush uses the latest technology in rust and corrosion removal to totally revitalize automotive cooling systems.

Cooling System Flush removes rust scale, lime ( calcium ), and other deposits readily built up in radiators, water pumps, water jackets, engine blocks and heads. CSF will not harm soldered joints, gaskets or seals. Rust and corrosion in cooling systems act like an insulator and cause vehicles to overheat. This product restores the engines ability to transfer heat to the coolant allowing the engine to run cooler.

DIRECTIONS: Remove Coolant and replace with cooling system flush. It is recommended that you should run the vehicle for at least 8 to 10 hours before draining Cooling System Flush. You may drive the vehicle normally during this period.

Drain cooling system and flush with water. Refill cooling system with water and high quality coolant mixed to manufacturers specification.

Rebottle CSF when drained as this product can be used over until completely spent ( Saturated )

Cooling System Flush is not recommended to be left in engine blocks when temperatures fall below 0º degrees Celsius.

No Evapo-Rust™ contains detergents which can penetrate dirt and oil. Still, surface contaminants can slow the process and shorten the life of Evapo-Rust™. Heavy greases and cosmoline should be removed prior to de-rusting.

 

Will Evapo-Rust™ remove bluing and other oxide finishes?

Yes, in about 30 minutes. Anodizing will not be removed. Powder coating and paints that do not contain oxides won’t be removed.

 

Can I clean Brass, copper and aluminum with Evapo-Rust™?

No, it will not clean (or damage) any of these metals. It will not harm plastic, clothing or glass either.

 

I get a black film on some parts after using Evapo-Rust™. What is it and how do I remove it?

High carbon steel and tool alloy steel items will have a darker appearance when de-rusted. The dark film is carbon, and can be easily wiped off with a cloth.

 

Can I de-rust by spraying Evapo-Rust™ on the rusted area?

No, Evapo-Rust™ only works in liquid form, since the water in the solution will evaporate when sprayed. However, it can be sprayed on unrusted steel as a rust preventative.

How do I know when the bath is spent?

The bath will turn completely black and will not remove rust.

Is Evapo-Rust™ safe to transport?

Yes Evapo-Rust is non-hazardous and can be shipped by regular courier freight services.

What is the shelf life of Evapo-Rust™ and how long does it last?

Evapo-Rust™ has an indefinite shelf life and can be used over and over until it absolutely stops working. Only water may be lost to evaporation. If any of the bath evaporates, simply replace it with fresh tap water. Evapo-Rust™ has a tremendous work load. 20 litres can remove 1 kilo of pure dry rust. Rust is about 1/17 the weight of iron by volume, which means its workload is substantial. On average, 20 litres will de-rust up to 1/2 tonne of light to moderately rusty steel. As the iron is removed from the iron oxide, carbon from the rust is released. Some parts may have a black film after using Evapo-Rust™ the black is carbon from the steel. Generally high carbon steel is used in making items that are flexible (eg. Springs, saw blades, etc). High carbon steel and tool alloy steel items, when de-rusted, will have a darker appearance. The carbon can be removed simply by wiping with a cloth when rinsing with water. Eventually, the bath will turn completely black and will not perform. The more you de-rust, the darker the solution becomes. Evapo-Rust™ is spent when it is pitch black and no longer performs.

I left Evapo-Rust uncovered and found a dark gel left in container:

The water content in Evapo-Rust is the only thing that will evaporate. If the water content is replaced to bring the content back to the capacity of the original container purchased Evapo-Rust will be revitalized. It is suggested that when using Evapo-Rust mark the top of fluid level in container before use and maintain this level by continual top up with fresh water to circumvent evaporation.
